Chances are you didn't ovulate during that time and his ejaculate was pushed out with your menses but it is still possible to get pregnant anytime during your cycle as every woman ovulates at different times during her cycle.

To know for sure when you ovulate you should be using Fertility Awareness methods such as taking your basal body temperature daily and checking your cervical mucous for when ovulation is indicated. Search online for fertility charting, there are many programs available online to help you know when you ovulate so you'll know what days during your cycle to abstain from sex to prevent a pregnancy. (a word of caution though - don't trust the fertility charts that figure it all out for you on a 28 day cycle. They are not accurate.)

If you plan on having unprotected sex in the future and aren't using fertility awareness then you should talk to your health care physician about hormonal birth control options.

Remember, only condoms will protect you against STDs and STIs.
