I really wouldn't try fixing it myself. You don't want to screw it up more, I'd just pay the cash to get it fixed... Better safe than sorry.
In general, it's possible to replace a laptop hard drive your self, but some laptaps require special tools to open them properly. If it's an older laptop, I might try it myself and just accept the risk of breaking it.
If it's fairly new but out of warranty, I think I'd pay to have it done.

Can I repair my laptop myself?
My laptop has got a drive problem.I am not in a position to get expert help.I have opened desktops before and changed drives.Is it similar to laptops?Just smaller ones? Or should I try other options?
