Q: Can I drink alcohol and take ciprofloxacin?

A: following through with articles I've read up on. it varies so much in terms of the effects and reasons why. obviously, drinking alcohol while on antibiotics reduces the effectiveness of the meds. however, some say it increases the side effects, others say you can die, it's just too hard to know for sure. recommendation, don't drink alcohol while on any meds unless dr./pharmacist says it's ok. for me, I'm on cipro right now, and I took my dose this morning, intend on skipping it tonight, and start again in the morning. we have an event to go to tonight that we cannot miss, and the cipro tends to make me feel pretty horrible. not saying this is correct, but I'm right in the middle of my prescription, and lots of people miss doses by accident, and just take it the next dosing time. what's wrong with a drink or two while the antibiotics are out of the system for a few hours? no harmful effects of the meds mixing with the alcohol, and you just take your next dose first thing in the morning when the alcohol is either gone, or not very strong in the body. But if you intend on getting plastered, it's probably not a very safe thing to do. as the antibiotics are still in the system, and you are risking way too much. you may end up with a bigger issue than what you are on the meds for in the first place, and could possibly cost you your life. so be smart, avoid if you can, but one or two shouldn't make a big difference. I might sound ridiculous, and I might seem irresponsible, but if I had simply stated that I missed a dose by accident, and had a few drinks, it would be a whole new world of responses.

A: You can, but the side affects could cause you problems. I would speak with your doctor... I Am on Certain RX & Some I can, Some I Can't... But Most I'd say no.
