of course. religion is your beliefs. if you don't believe in anything, you've already changed it. its your decision alone to make.

There is no ritual you have to perform or any place where you have to register to be an atheist.

If you don't believe in god you are an atheist. Simple as that.

If your parents are religious don't expect them to be supportive on this.

good luck!

well you don't really need to do anything, its what you believe. but I would say even if you don't beleive it you should still take yourself as a catholic

You already have changed. What you are is an athiest, and that means you have no religious belief. There is no ceremony, or transformation you have to go through. You have already seen through the silliness of the concept of miracles and a supernatural being who is looking out for us. And even though your parents can make you go to church, or make you receive communion, they can't make you believe. Once you are old enough, they can't keep making you go.

You can now live your life free of the fears and insecurities that religious belief brings.

Congratulations!

Yep - I will echo what others have said.

If you lack a belief in a god or deities of any kind, then you are an atheist. Although the word does conjure up negative images in the mind of many believers (whatever their religion may be).

Remember, many holy text say things like A fool says in is heart there is no god, or kill the unbeliever.

I congratulate you on using your logic and reason to see your way out of the intellectual black hole of theism. If you are interested in my story, please watch this : http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=2HWVkS2g7xo

No one can force you to do anything against your will, Your parents have the say, untill you are of age, but, that will not get you into heaven. It will only breed rebellion.

We all have to find our own way. And you are feeling the effects of growing up right now. If there is any truth in your parents religion, at some point, that truth will touch your heart, and cause you to at least seek further.

Religion is man made rules. The God that created the Universe is bigger than anything that man tries to do with him.

He is real, and he loves you.

You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.

We are designed with a conscience, to help us to know right from wrong.

And I believe that we all have a spot inside us that is designed for God.

And I also believe that nothing can fill it, but, him.

Many of us look in the wrong places.

We seek fullfillment thur multitudes of ways.

A bigger house, a newer car, better job, sex, drugs rock roll. To name a few.

However, at some point in our lives, we begin to feel empty.

At that point, we have tried everthing that the world has to offer, and come up short.

Then we can we reach out, in sincerity and truth, and find God.

We all want to go our own way, and most do, however, God knows and understands all of this, and has made provision for it.

We can follow the guidelines layed out in religion, and be safe, from many of the woes that afflict mankind, or we can blindly go along on our own.

When we finally see our need, we can reach out to God, and find him waiting for us.

God be with you, as you seek your own way.

Her parents have no say in what she believes. And it seems she has no desire to go to a place that doesn't exist.

We all have to find our own way. And you are feeling the effects of growing up right now. If there is any truth in your parents religion, at some point, that truth will touch your heart, and cause you to at least seek further.

If you were really seeking truth, you would be willing to accept that god might not exist. Yours is not a search for truth, it is accepting something as truth with out evidence.

Religion is man made rules. The God that created the Universe is bigger than anything that man tries to do with him.

gods are man made too. Or have the old egyptian and roman gods died? What proof do you have that your is any more real than theirs?

He is real, and he loves you.

To bad he doesn't love the victims of Katrina or the tsunamis. He stood by and let them all die.

You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.

1 out of 3 aint bad.

'We are designed with a conscience, to help us to know right from wrong. '

we evolved to have a conscience, that most of the time it helps us know right from wrong. Sometime it depends on who defining the right and wrong.

And I believe that we all have a spot inside us that is designed for God.'

Only one spot? I though god designed everthing.

'And I also believe that nothing can fill it, but, him. '

Where exactly is this spot, and what does he fill it with? Sounds gross having some guy fiddling with my inside spot.

Many of us look in the wrong places.

Many of us just look to ourselves. It is usually a lot easier to find than poking around in the wrong places.

We seek fullfillment thur multitudes of ways.

True, I seek fulfillment by playing my guitar. It does wonders for me.

A bigger house, a newer car, better job, sex, drugs rock roll. To name a few.

These all sound pretty good, except maybe the drug part, but to each his own. You have a problem with Rock Roll?

However, at some point in our lives, we begin to feel empty.

No it is just the bigger house that is empty. I need to buy more furniture.

At that point, we have tried everthing that the world has to offer, and come up short.

Very few of us have come anywhere near trying everthing the world has to offer.

Then we can we reach out, in sincerity and truth, and find God.

Sound like a lot of trouble. Couldn't I just be a good moral person, upstanding citizen, and do charitable works? Oh too late, I already do those things.

We all want to go our own way, and most do, however, God knows and understands all of this, and has made provision for it.

Jeez, we have to do all this work, and all along god has known and made provisions? He is a tricky guy that god...

We can follow the guidelines layed out in religion, and be safe, from many of the woes that afflict mankind, or we can blindly go along on our own.

But if you don't follow the guidelines you will be made to suffer those many woes. Real nice guy that god is.

When we finally see our need, we can reach out to God, and find him waiting for us.

He couldn't have told us sooner. It would have made it a lot easier.

God be with you, as you seek your own way.

Maybe a flashlight might be more useful...

If there is any truth in your parents religion, at some point, that truth will touch your heart...

Read If it makes you feel good, then it must be true.

Religion is man made rules.

Yes because all religions are man made, just like god.

The God that created the Universe...

Which god is that then?

He is real, ...

So you say.

...and he loves you.

Then why is there so much suffering in the world? Why is free will so important to god that he won't help. Aren't we all the simplest of machines to an all knowing god?

You are a spirit, ...

No such thing.

...you have a soul,...

Wrong again.

and you live in a body.

Horray! A fact.

We are designed with a conscience, to help us to know right from wrong.

We evolved a sense of morality as a cohesive society that works well together survives better than one that fights and kills one another (although we still do that to outside groups).

And I believe that we all have a spot inside us that is designed for God.

Not me. Guess god forgot.

And I also believe that nothing can fill it, but, him.

You are free to believe that, just don't expect me to.

However, at some point in our lives, we begin to feel empty.

Nope - never. Too much to live for. I am in no rush to end my life, but it could be argued that theists can't wait to get to heaven. Why wouldn't you want to get there as fast as possible?

Then we can we reach out, in sincerity and truth, and find God.

Usually the first god you come across will suffice.

We all want to go our own way, and most do, however, God knows and understands all of this, and has made provision for it.

Apparently god knows everything and has a grand plan for us, yet any schmuck with free will can mess it all up. God's plan also seems to include billions of people going to hell for eternity for not believing in him.

We can follow the guidelines layed out in religion,...

I thought you said religion was man made?

... and be safe, from many of the woes that afflict mankind, or we can blindly go along on our own.

Or we can blindly follow the tenants of faith laid down by ignorant men thousands of years ago. They don't call it blind faith for nothing.

so...what do u thinkk? Answered by drtysneakrs01 on Mar 14, 2008, 02:18PM

its easy.

you simply stop believing in them, as you already have.
no one can MAKE you believe in them.

and your religion would probably be considered atheist, b/c they dont believe in anything.

and your religion would probably be considered atheist,

Atheism is not a religion, but the lack of one. There are no rituals, books, tenants, ceremonies, churches, or fees to pay.

b/c they dont believe in anything.

No - that would be nihilism. Athiests just lack a belief in a god, but we believe in all sorts of things.

belief in God is not a club to join and un join. If you don't believe you don't believe. there is not ritual or duty. just as there is none to get in. If you have to talk to anyone talk to God tell him you don't want to believe. or ask God to prove to you if He is who He says He is. If its sincere and you do it for the right reasons He will.
