6 weeks is the MINIMUM for healing for ear lobes. Most professionals will actually tell you to wait until you've hit the 8 week mark to switch out earrings. I would advise waiting until you've gone to 6 weeks just because it's safe. You may think your ears are ready to have new earrings but they really aren't. I'll tell you when I had my ears pierced I switched my earrings to barbells after 3 weeks and though nothing happened at that moment, I get a lot more ear infections from that piercing than people whose ears are pierced that waited.

You really have to wait until your ears heal themselves and get all of that infectious bacteria out so that it doesn't harm you in the long run. Ear pierces may seem really easy but you have to be careful just as you would any other piercing.

If I was you I would wait in the region of between 6-8 weeks else you can cause infections and your ears might start to swollen !

3 weeks will leave it infected

honestly it depends on your skin type. some people no matter how long they wait, can still get infections. mine healed extremely fast, less then your 3 weeks. here's what I did:

- the best method to 100% avoid infection, is to switch earrings with either gold or pure silver. none of those fake cheap ones found at like claire's...even though they're prettier lol.
- squirt some bactine first aid found at like walmart or drugstores, onto a Q-tip and rub the pierced section (front and back so that it seeps into the hole)
- rub some Vaseline (a little) onto the earring and insert it

do this 2x a day for about a week or until you feel it has fully healed and you don't feel any slight pain left.

OH! and remember, throughout the day, fiddle around with your earring, like push it in and out or turn it. the circulation of movement and air helps it from closing in

if you don't have gold or silver earrings...I guess the fake ones will work too, just takes longer.

good luck

Pierced ear lobes need gold studs when they are first pierced. If you change the jewellery to another metal so soon, your ear could go green.
But yeah, like everyone is saying, you're supposed to keep it in for at least 6 weeks.
