Can i be pregnant?

Asked by livininthefastlane about 1 year ago, 5 answers.

Hello, I am 25 years old and I want to have children but, me and my husband had decided to try for a baby this upcomming fall because that is when im going to finally graduate college with a psychology degree!! Even before we got married we had always...

had unprotected sex using the pull - out method. I normally have a 30 - 32 day cycle and, my husband and I had unprotected sex around the time that I was ovulating, just a few days ago. He always pulls out and it has been affective for us for many years although, this time when he pulled out some of his semen got onto the outside of my vagina. Is it possible to become pregnant if just a small amount was on the outside? I know that there is a possibility and I know that it is rather small but im very nervous because I do not want to walk across the stage to recieve my degree on graduation day with a pregnant belly!! Please give me some answers because I am very nervous, I do not want to have a child until this up comming fall like we had planned!!! Also, the same scenerio had occured the next day while we were having sex as well and now im even more afraid that I will become pregnant because it happened twice, PLEASE any advice that can be given would be greatly appreciated. I will be taking a pregnancy test but it is to soon right now. So please answer this!!

yes even if none got on the outside because when a guy gets hard and ready for sex their is precum at the tip that also has sperm in it pluse sperm folows heat and if its at the opening theirs a chance it can get in and the pull out method is only like 7% effective so because it has worked for so long you probably are less able to get pregnant

The pull-out method is not an acceptable form of birth control. I mean acceptable as in effective. It is correct that the fluid that a man emits before ejaculation does contain sperm. You should see your health care professional for a pregnancy test. The tests that the office uses can detect the HcG in your urine before most tests you buy in stores. They can also test for HcG in your blood, that generally rises faster than that in your urine. Regardless, please consider an alternate form of contraception if you do not want to get pregnant. There are so many options on the market now.

Chickie poo, I also would like to know about what you mean when you say the pull out method is only like 7% effective so because it has worked for so long you probably are less able to get pregnant , why would this be the case? I am very interested to know because when I read that, it scared me, for I do want to have children!!

Dear livininthefastlane,
Yes...you can become pregnant this way. Any sperm on or near your vagina can cause a pregnancy. The rhythm method (pull out) is not a safe practise. When a man is excited he produces pre-c*m that contains sperm. How you haven't gotten pregnant already is surprising. Sperm also lives for a time on hands, clothing, towels, under finger nails etc. So being exposed to sperm and then touching your vagina can also result in pregnancy. Although it is rare this way it has happened. If you do not want to be pregnant...always use protection.
Sue...good luck
