Well, I'm in Ca....
and I was evicted 2 years ago. They will first give you a notice that your rent is late or a 3 day notice to pay or quit. (Preliminary eviction). Upon that letter, either tell your landlord you can pay some or all of the backrent or go to the court and give your answer. Regardless of what you do, the Fair Housing Act cannot allow any tenant to just be 'thrown out.' Even if you went 3 months without paying, they cannot physically take your property or force you out until a long procedure has been followed. You know you MUST leave when they give you a 24 hour notice from the Sherrif. IF you don't, then they can come in and FORCE you to go, or have the police supervise your move.
