Depends what type you have. If monitored correctly and daignosed at an early time its not as bad as being diagnosed after damage has been done to the organs.
Oh okay. Well, it's my family member who has it and they have type two diabetes. And they have to take medication in the form of a swallowable pill in the morning and at night, but they don't need insulin(sp?). Someone told me that if they have diabetes they have as much as 20 years to live. Is this true?
If the person doesn't get proper care, I'm sure it can do some damage.
My grandfather had it for well over 20 years and it didn't kill him.
Any disease can potentially shorten your life span, depending on the damage it does, whether it is caught early enough, how well you follow a treatment plan etc. Type 2 isnt as severe as type one and with lifestyle changes can be controlled...

Can diabetes make your life shorter?
