Can a toenail just disappear?

My toe nail is just like gone...like I took off my sock and only the the top half is there...like the bottom part that is closest to the skin on my foot, that part of the toe nail is just gone...just like no there.theres no pus or bloody and it doesn't hurt..
Is that normal?
What should I do?
