This isn't an answer (I'm a rotten cook) but a word of explanation for the US readers out there:

'icing' is usually called 'frosting' in the US.

well dont use a thick icing. stay away from cream cheese, thick and fluffy kinds, and heavy kinds. you want to use a lighter type. maybe I shiney glaze on the cake and then a thicker icing to decorate it. that really all I can think. sorry if I wasnt much help.

Just want to share with you a recipe for cake icing. I got it from a website.

Ingredients: 1 tablespoon milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, 1c sifted sugar (and a mixing bowl)

Combine the sugar, vanilla and milk in the mixing bowl. Stir and add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time. Don't make it too thick. Make it a little thinner but be carefull and put it on the cake once ready.

Hope this helped!
