That's how most parents act towards their daughter getting involved in relationships.
I wouldn't care what my parents thought, and I would let them know I am happy. But at the same time, you want to do what's best for you and your future, so ask them why they don't like him, and make sure they have a good reason and not because He looks raggedy because that's not a good answer, that's just profiling.
It could also be because your parents are to protective over you, but then again, you know your parents better than myself. Sooo try talking to them about why they don't like the guy first.
There are ways to making your parents come around and actually seeing that he is a nice guy (if he actually is one).
Get him to hang out with you more as a family. Family dinners, family movie nights, etc. He can cook for them one night. Show that he is responsible, treat you right, respect your parents, etc.
When they see that he can treat a girl right, is respectful, and is a a good guy - they will usually let up a little bit.
Honestly, it matters what your parents think! If they do not like a guy ask them why? Is it worth being with someone that the people closest to you don't get a long with? What kind of relationship is that going to be like and your family will always be there, guys come and go. If you really can't understand why your parents wouldn't like him then try explaining to them how he really is or invite him over to spend time with them to show them they are wrong...its not worth going against your parents just for the hell of it.
My mum hated my boyfriend at first but because he was so much older than me. She stopped me from seeing her but I saw him behind her back. After a year of being together I told her I'd been seeing her behind his back- she took it realy well actually and said if were still together after a year he does love me. Moral- he has to proove his worth, he has to EARN his respect. Get him together wwith your mum and let them get to know each other a lil bit better
