As a hairdresser for 20 years, and as someone who has naturally curly hair, I know this is a tough question. It depends on a lot of things - how coarse or fine is your hair, do you want to wear it curly or straight, is your hair dry or oily? Most store brands will weigh your curls down, which is great if that's what you want. Your best option is to try travel sizes in a few different brands and softening levels. I have used heavy softeners when I had long hair and perms, but now with my hairstyle more straight, I actually have enough softness with a moisturizing shampoo - no conditioner. See, I said it would be a tough question!
