Body dysmorphia

if god had wanted me otherwise he would have made me otherwise Asked by grifilcan about 1 year ago, 5 answers.

Aight so I'm a tad bit messed up... I think I have an obsession with working out and looking good. I mean everyone wants to but I spend 2hrs at a gym and come home and do more abs and pushups. If I weigh more than 120 I tweak out, if you cant see my abs...

I tweak out. I mean I feel vain always checking the mirror and stuff but really I don't see much I like in the mirror. I actually really don't like myself and have had serious bouts with self-harm. I know self-esteem issues because I've been there but I think this goes beyond it. Does anyone know anything about this and could give me some advice on it or on what to do?

I know how you feel. I saw this on dostor phil today. haha. Well maybe you should talk to a pshycoligist about it. They can help you relize that you don't have to look perfect to be well liked. I hope I helped a little. Good Luckhappy

Body dysmorphic disorder

Definition

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is characterized by an excessive preoccupation with a real or imagined defect in your physical appearance.

People with body dysmorphic disorder have a distorted or exaggerated view of how they look and are obsessed with actual physical characteristics or perceived flaws, such as a certain facial feature or imperfections of the skin. They often think of themselves as ugly or disfigured. People with body dysmorphic disorder often have problems controlling negative thoughts about their appearance, even when reassured by others that they look fine and that the minor or perceived flaws aren't noticeable or excessive.

You probably know more about body dysmorphic disorder than I do. In any case, above are two links on the subject.

I'd seriously consider seeing a psychologist that specializes in cognitive behaviroal therapy... Your brain needs to be rewired to lessen the obsession and generally CBT has been shown to be the most effective way of doing this...
