Hi,

He's probably teething. Like children, he needs something to chew on as his teeth come in. Buy rawhide or plastic toys he can chew up. Rope toys are good too. As long as his mouth is occupied with that, he'll stop biting you. If he does continue to bite you, give him some negative reinforcement (yell or tap his nose and say NO), and give him the toy to chew.

Puppies play with YOU, just like you were another puppy. Herding pups (Collies, shelties, German Shepherds, Aussies, Heelers) are the worst for 'mouthing', especially going for your heels...but all breeds of pups do it to some extent. At five months, he's lost all his baby teeth, so now he needs to learn to play nice.

My dog MoJo is a German Shepherd...and was the worst biter/mouther of any GSD's I've ever had...he'd get so excited if I pushed him away, he'd come back like an attack dog...this was at only 9 weeks old. The best 'discipline' he ever learned, was if he played rough, I wouldn't play at all...I'd get up, and go to the bathroom and close the door...he hated that, and in 3 days or so, had 'learned' that rough play equaled NO play. You can also 'yelp OUCH' just like another puppy, so he knows he's hurting you...that stops some from getting over excited. Also, distracting him with a toy, saying...'no bite...'...hand him the toy...saying 'here'...or 'trade'...any one word will work...

Until you get his mouthing under control, don't let meet the bus...or at least work with the kids too, so they know how to make him stop (do this inside, so they can get up and leave the room till he settles down)

Not every trick of the trade fits every dog...so it's nice to have an arsenal of alternatives for training...Why not think about taking him to an Obedience Class.

use a muzzel I cant stand people saying but there wrong there the best tool you can use to stop a puppy in its tracks he will lear very fast hes not daft hes very smart dogs bite or nips because there happy over happy its in his nature to bite when over happy use the muzzel when your kids get off the bus he cant bite though it and soon he will learn that he only gets it on if he bites and he will stop 5 mins the first time 10 mins the 2nd and so on and so on if hes up to 1 hour maybe think about getting him the snip but that is like the last step by the way dont let people pet him when he has his muzzel on and who ever puts it on must take it back off him he needs to know they do care about him but its for his own good
