it usually takes about 3 months for your period to regulate with any kind of birth control - or longer. So you are probably experiencing an irregular period. However if you're concerned, get a PT.

Most of the people I know that are on the shot do not have periods. I was on the shot for two years and I never had a period and I was not pregnant. I also found out that the shot is not good for you in the future.

It is common to miss your period while on depo. If you are worried though, speak to the doctor next time you go in for the next shot. They can do a quick pregnancy test there

Hi there,

I am a Doctor in Canada. While on Depo-provera, you are NOT supposed to have a period. The horomones are in your body constantly, unlike the pill which you have a week long break to have a period. Depo is very effective, about 99.7%. Before you have your new shot (every 13 weeks), you should do an at home pregnancy test, because in the event that you are pregnant - Depo could have some complications. What you are experiencing is normal, so do not worry.
Also, Once you go off of Depo-Provera, you may not have a period for up to a year or more. This is a very powerful birth control and can have lasting effects on your body. As a doctor, I will most of the time suggest women going on the pill before resorting to Depo. The pill can be stopped immediately, has minimal side effects and gives you the security of having a perios every month. If you find some make you sick, try a low dose. I reccomend tri-Cyclin low. It mimcs your natural cycle closer and has a very low dose.

your not suppose to get your period when your on the shot. They check for pregnancy when you go to get your next shot after the three months.

it's normal for the shot to stop your period once you stop the shot your periods should return to normal. I'm on it to but the weird thing about me is I took the shot about a month ago and I just start the 1/28 and I haven't stopped yet. hats screwed up.
