when your baby is ready. the fact that you are 1cm must mean that you have had some serious braxton hicks already...

have you had your 'show' yet( the mucous plug)

I think you having your baby will be iminent...your body is totally ready for it now, are you?

and labour really does vary, it could last 3 hours, it could last 30...it really depeneds.

your first baby is normally 12 hours ish...just remember, keep mobile, keep moving about speeds up the muscle activity and breath...it REALLY does help!

make sure you've got something comfy to wear...but I would put your family on red alert...

good luck, you'll be fine.. happy

From the time your 36 weeks on you could be anywhere from 1-4 centimeters without having the baby. My first child I was 1 centimeter for 5 weeks (he was one week overdue). Unless your water breaks or you start to have regular contractions then I wouldn't worry about it. Most doctors won't put you into the hospital unless you're over 4 centimeters and having contractions. Also try to remember that you don't want your baby born before at least 38 weeks (anything before is considered premature).

Most likely you will stay at 1 centimeter until you are into full labor. It could be anywhere from now until your over your due date and your doctor decides to induce you.

My best friend walked around for 4 weeks at 4 centimeters until her doctor induced her (at 2 days over her due date).

So...don't worry and don't expect it to happen too soon. Just realize that your body is preparing itself for the journey it's about to have.

Good luck and congratulations
