Are oxygen and hydrogen compounds?

In nature, the elements oxygen and hydrogen are usually found as gases with the formulas O2 and H2. Why? Are they compounds? Are they molecules?

theyre like that because they cannot exist alone. they are molecules.

when you add oxygeon and hydrogen together they are a compound otherwise no they are just single elements
