Boyfriend / girlfriend in islam?

I was wondering if you're muslim is is haram to have a boyfriend / girlfriend?

My dad said it was but thats really confusing, isn't it natural for a guy / girl to like the opposite sex, yes. So if you can't have a boyfriend / girlfriend then how do you...

get married? It's not like you can get married based only on looks :|

to be honest itz the same thing as getting engaged lol..I just think of it that way..I mean you do the same thingz as when your engagd itz still before marriage right..? and boyfriend girlfriend break up and so can engagementz..so I don't know what to tell u..mi mom was kool with me talking to guyz so I don't know..but yea I've learned that you can't get married like arranged and b in love the first couple yearz..evryone in mi family had a love marriage so I don't think itz haram..I hope this helpz..

Its forbidden because usually people have a girlfriend/boyfriend then break up and have another boyfriend/girlfriend, which isn't seen right in islam. However, it is not wrong to love someone because you can't help that feeling. The point is that boyfriend/girlfriend lead on to other stuff such as kissing, touching and maybe sex which is haram in islam before marriage. A big misconception is that in islam everyone has to have a love marriage and not an arranged marriage, no. Islam allows people to have a love marriage but your parents have to approve of it. If parents do not approve it is then seen as wrong. Unfortunately arranged marriage is cultureand has nothing to do with islam.

Salam A lakom... as it is getting very common that young people are having boyfriends and girlfriend, Islam is the only religion that hasnt changed from the time it was revealed... most other religions have changed their own religion to make it suit their own desires... Advice to all young people, I know its probably harder but everything Allah has made unlawful is only for our benefit. All says in surat Ta ha.. dont come near Zan'a(Illegal sexual intercourse) you notice he says not to come near, not just dont do it.. Because it iz zina'h that takes you away from your pride, friends, family and your religion. Also if you get married young, you know that man is going to take you more serious, he would act more responsible, he would work hard as he known that he has a women to protect. Also they say live you life then get married this is a false ideolagy, live you life with your wife/husband... go around the world see things and share your experience toghther your still young have fun then when your ready you can settle down with your kids.. At the end of the day every girl wants a decent guy but you want that guy if you have a boyfriend. We going to live at a time where every man is going to marry more than one women because theres less decent guy dese days and women just prefer to marry a married men when she gives up looking... think yourself in 20 years with a daughter, would you like her to have lot of boyfriends which will without doubt lead to sex with atleast one of them.
