Best punishment for a rapist??

Today I read in the my local newspaper that a man entered a house, robbed a 75 year old woman and then raped her before he left!!

What would be the best punishment for this rapist??

Sentencing them to several years in a prison would not fair to the...

trauma he caused his victim.

I think one of the biggest problems with society is that everyone is always too eager to punish rather than treat the actual problem.

We don't know this man's background. We don't know if he has any sort of mental illness, so to throw in a general punishment would be counter-productive.

I think that an assessment needs to be done to clearly understand the man's behaviour before a suitable punishment or rehabilitation can be discussed.

As for the victim, she will most likely need therapy regardless of what the outcome is.

Rapists usually just get a certain amount of time in prison..
But I personally think they should be sentenced to death.
Its totally sick that anyone would force themselves onto another person
Some of these rapes and totally disgusting (not saying some are not disgusting... )
like I was watching a program about a woman... she was over 60 years old... a man broke into her house, robbed her.. she walked in as he was going through her things.. he then locked her in a room... raped her.. dragged her out of her house beaten and bruised and then slit her throat and left her to die under a tree.. away from any one. This man deserved to die... it took them over 15 year to find this man.. and he was just given a prison sentence.
I really wish the death penalty was in place.

Agreed with ichi -- throwing an arbitrary, reactionary punishment at someone does nothing to treat the underlying problem. It only provides a momentary Band-aid to your own sense of outrage, at least until it happens again. We should be treating the disease, not castrating the symptoms.

If you're outraged that someone with mental illness is raping elderly people, castrating them does nothing except soothe your own sense of guilt that he was allowed to run around sick and dangerous in the first place.

I agree with jf...Especially if this person is known for more than one offense. They get to live but they won't have the desire to keep doing this...rehab may work but there isn't enough funding for this type of problem. We are too busy bailing out big corporations and banks right now.

To say that a person, let's say had a bad upbringing should not be punished to the full extent is a slap to the victim. If said individual did the deed, that person should be punished and let us worry how he feels later. How would I feel if a nutter raped my mom, well put them away. We don't need that around anyone elses mom. Let the psychologists deal with it in jail.

regardless of upbringing, every individual is responsible for their own actions, right or wrong and should be responsible for those actions...time to stop the cycle if their background was crap...no excuse for committing a crime!
If they cant help what they do, then they need to be locked away anyways as to not to be a harm to others.

I don't think the government should be in the revenge business. Ideally convicts should be rehabilitated when possible and isolated from society when they are not.

No amount of punishment will un-rape the unfortunate victim.

I follow katie price's view. anything that anyone does 2 some 1 they shud have done 2 themselves.

Antisocial personality disorder hasnt been shown to respond too well to psychiatric interventions... I agree that something needs to be done, interventions need to be started from the ground up... but that doesnt mean you can risk leaving a sociopath out in the world...

2. sentensed to prison for life and share a cell with a guy named big bob so that he gets raped every night for the rest of his life.

I agree with if someone rapes a child., there is no reabilatation for an adult to has a desire for young children! sick!

It doesnt really matter what problems he had. He did what he did and deserves to be punished by being sent to prison/jail, where ever. If he was mentally challenged or whatever, then put him in a coo coo place. Not even they deserve to be kept outside for raping someone. People who say that it was from there childhood parents and stuff, its not the parents fault, its the kid who chooses it to do himself. So yeah.

I'll combo a couple of ancers.
1) chop off whtever body part they used in the rape(dick, fingers, toung, whatever)
2) Put them in that cell with big boob for the rest of there lives to be raped and molested every single one of those nights for ever.
3) they should let the dad/mam/brothers/friends/whatever at them for at least 30min!
and after that I don't they will be capable of doing anything like that ever again!!!

I am pro-capital punishment in extreme cases, but only if it has been proven that said individual has raped someone - If we killed every man who has ever been accused of rape, there would be very few males left.

Also, I dont see the death penalty as acceptable in the first offense (with the exemption of a child rapist) - but I also see a slap on the wrist for a PROVEN rapist as weak.
