Beliefs

Asked by fau 2 months ago, 22 answers.

Do you have any beliefs that you think are true but that you don't think are justified? In other words, can you give evidence that everything that you believe is really true? Explain.

Although I'm sure I have many many unexamined beliefs, I try not to have unexamined *relevant* beliefs.

For example, I don't think my belief that gravity will continue to exist in 10 minutes is relevant. If I'm wrong, oh well, there's nothing I could have done differently, and no real way for me to examine that belief anyway.

But things like religious beliefs do bear examination, because they impact the decisions and choices we make. Your life can be dramatically different based on these types of beliefs.

I do have beliefs, but the thing is … I know they’re true. I am not trying to impose them on anyone but simply say that I have a close enough walk with God that I’ve had experiences that are plenty of justification for my beliefs. I don’t want to tell you what church to go to, or what denomination it should be. Just that whatever it is make sure they’re teaching the apostle’s teachings. A lot of people just think that all Christians think and believe the same.

Jeremiah 14:14 “Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart”

Matthew 24:11 “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”

It doesn’t say that there’ll be false gods that rise up here. It doesn’t say that people will just stop believing, or never believe, the right way for no reason. It says there will be false prophets that come and lead people away. If you think I’m saying that you’re preacher is trying to send you to hell I’m not. Because he has been lead down a path too … His just ended up behind a pulpit without the whole truth.
Jesus taught the apostles a specific way, and there is no scriptural reference to that way ever changing. Why would we believe and do, or not do, things any different than how they did them. (They being Jesus and the apostles

Justifying your beliefs, is just another way of saying you've convinced yourself. Which means you don't KNOW they're true, you just BELIEVE they're true... there IS a difference.

Why are so many theists so quick to claim they KNOW their beliefs are true, when they defy their own faith AND God in the process?

I have beliefs that may seem unjustified to others, but I don't doubt in them until they're proven wrong.

The nice thing about my religion is that it actually leaves room to be proven wrong - nothing is set in stone, and everything can be modified...I don't believe in a God, but if science can prove he exists, then Buddhism will change to accommodate that. The same goes with my beliefs...if science can prove this belief is false, then I can modify it.

how can sea sells get on top of a huge mountain??? well when God caused the great flood that covered a lot of the earth the water came over the mountains. when the bible says that demons roam the earth it is true too. my friend has seen a posessed person while doing missonary work. When the bible says that god loves you... it is true!!! god loves each and every one of us so much. he wants us to have a relationship with him.

oh yeah me too I've seen a possesed person...

well when I was in high school I was a senior and somebody dragged me off out of class to tend to this young chrsitian girl who was possesed...they were all muslims so they didnt know what to do they made a paper cross and put it on her fore head and she kept screaming No No!'...I don't know what gotten into me I told every one to get out and as soon as they all left I actually slapt her omg...she stopped screaming and I wasn't in the mood to joke around so I told her to cut the bull...turns out she didnt do her homework and was afraid of the teacher well we all were lol...
satan isn't afraid of paper crosses sheesh ...but yeah I 've seen weird things and no not on missionary work...like people manifesting and vomiting needles out of their mouth and nails...I remember once at church I was sitting in front of a lady who got possesed she screamed on top of her lungs pulling her hair like right behind me man...I really thought I was gonna pass out...I never been so scared in my life..
Despite knowing the difference between a fake and real possesion there was this once incident till this day I'll never forget...It's the day I saw my friend who had recently pass away she always waited for me outside the the girls changing room and there was nobody there and I saw her standing there telling me I was taking too long...I smelled her perfume...id know that scent no matter what planet im in...I was paralized...in shock ...that day made headlines in our local news...I returned to my class shaking and found EVERY SINGLE STUDENT in all senior classes possesed...and I am seriousl the whole class were fainting screaming pulling their hair off throwing tables and the teachers were all helpless...they were scratching their faces...and I can't believe im the only one in class that didn't get that.Students were being driven to hospitals. The first thing on my mind was maybe it was like what happened in Japan with mass epilepsy or toxic matter got into the airway but then I remebered my friend and there was just something I felt wasn't quite right...if your christian I felt my spirit recognize something from an evil spirit...it was very haunting and disturbing I didnt stick around soon as I saw the police I'm outta here.
