it can go both ways singers and bands that have been around for a long time learn how to write their own songs but some dont and new ones probablly write their own stuff and some get others to write it for them...

Well if your a true singer,you writer your own lyrics. Course some singers are a little to busy to do it themselves,but I think they should write their own stuff.

when you sign a record contract with any reputable label. you are hired on a pay to play basis. and if your starting off, chances are your going to have to sell the rights to your music you write.

people like Bettye LaVette used to never write songs. she just started a couple years ago. Ray Charles diddn't write any of his hits. Elvis never wrote a thing till he kinged up.

all they care about is 2 things. 1- does it sound good. 2- is it profitable. wether you wrote it or some shlub from kentucky. dosn't matter as long as thiers permission from the writer to use it.

song writers get their sings published. singers like george strait go to those publishers for songs. George Strait has only written like one or two songs in his whole 30 plus year career.
