Who ever thinks he is doing good please watch the news from time to time. The only thing he has effectivly done is:
Raised gas prices, energy costs and food costs (he predicts that some may double)
Gave a stimulus package for the ultra wealthy.
Funded abortions over seas
Suggnificantly weakend American security.
Shutting down military research and development.

Wow, are you people serious? He inherited the worst economy since the great depression, and you guy are already calling him a failure because in his 69 days in office he hasn't fixed all of Bush's f---ups, and has not implemented every single campaign promise already.

I bet you guys were the same ones who said that criticizing a president during a time of war was unamerican and borderline treasoneous? We are still at war if you haven't noticed.

I think so far Obama has done pretty well. I haven't agreed with everthing he has done, but he has showed strong leadership. Compared to Bush he looks like a genius. At least Obama has the ability to put a few coherent sentences together.

Bush kept us safe. we will see what happens in the next fours years. Let us see if our enemy suddenly starts to love western civilization once they understand just how nice we are. Now that we have some peace-lovin hippies back in the white house . . . the terrorists might close down there marytr schools, and open up flower shops.

Bush kept us safe.

Pure supposition. Because we did not have another 9/11 does not mean it was Bush that prevented it. In fact terrorism and anti-american sentiment increased with bush. Read the last fer NIE reports.

Your rhetoric is clever, but not grounded in reality. We don't need them to love us, we just need them to not hate us, and not want to kill us.

And you obviously aren't paying attention, because Obama's plans for afghanistan are far from peace-lovin.

The radical Islamic groups are very aware that in our multi-cultural democratic society we embrace diversity. They also know it is unacceptable for the rest of the western democratic population to single out one religion for vilification. While we are busy bending over backward to make certain religious freedom is available to all, those of a religious orientation that desires to destroy all other religions, operate from within that freedom and safety to wage war against us...Even other Muslems aren't safe from the radicals... it is a martyrdom ideology, where life is expendable, and loss of ones life is desirable in pursuit of the cause.

Straight from the mouth of Mawlana Abul Alla Mawdudi, the founder of Pakistan’s fundamentalist movement..

Islam is not a normal religion like the other religions in the world, and Muslim nations are not like normal nations. Muslim nations are very special because they have a command from Allah to rule the entire world and to be over every nation in the world. Islam is a revolutionary faith that comes to destroy any government made by man. Islam doesn’t look for a nation to be in better condition than another nation. Islam doesn’t care about land or who owns the land. The goal of Islam is to rule the entire world and submit all of mankind to the faith of Islam. Any nation or power in this world that tries to get in the way of that goal Islam will fight and destroy. In order for Islam to fulfill that goal, Islam can use every power available every way it can be used to bring worldwide revolution. This is jihad.

I know you righties hate the idea of diplomacy, but that is the real way of the world. We offered reconciliation to taliban fighters who renounce violence. Who cares if THEY think it was crazy. From a PR point of view it is a winner. It shows the afghan people we are not unreasonable, and do not want to have constant war in THEIR country.

You see Jimahl some people in this world do not share in our Ideals of freedom.

Of course there are. So what. If our ideals were so important to us, we would not be so willing to ignore those ideals simply out of fear. During Bush, where were those ideals when we spying on innocent americans, or withholding basic human rights like habeus corpus? Where were those ideals when we were torturing other human beings? Where were those ideals when we blindly went to war against a country that never did anything to us? Where were those ideals when hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died because of lies about WMDs?

We cannot get them to like us, but we can get them to fear us so they wont attack us. That is all we can do for now. Toughness is the only trhing these guys understand,

Trying to get them to fear us does not work against the radicals. They are delusional and think they have god on there side, and will get there rewards in heaven if they die for the cause. Bush's approach to dealing with islamic extremism has only turned many moderates to radicals. For every terrorist we kill or capture, there are 3 more recurits to take his place.

You can find moderate Muslims...but there is no such thing as moderate Islam.

Sorry phrannie, I know you are far from stupid, but this about the most asinine statement I have ever seen you make. What do you think musilms said about christianity during the crusades? All religion is whacked, but you can not blame any religion for its crimes, you can only blame the zealots who twist it in order to justify their bloodlust. It is exactly what Bush does with christianity in order to justify his murderous ways.

Why do conservative always have to have a them?

First...I want to know...do you personally believe this is even remotely possible?? That they might somehow fullfill our needs??

And what are the Talaban, if not zealots?? It's the fundementalists who ARE the terrorists...and to hope, that even Obama (fine speaker tho he is) is going to change their thinking, their goals, is pure fantasy and folly...I don't think we're going to show them our gentle natures, our good hearts...and get them to see our way as good...they don't care. They have an agenda, and they won't satisfied until it is achieved...

Sorry, Phrannie, but I have to agree with much of what jimahl writes. There ARE moderate Muslims and moderate Islam, just as there are radical Muslims and radical Islam, radical and moderate Christians/Christianity, likewise Hindu/ism, etc.

Organized religion has had a long history of extremism, but that does not mean that all believers in that religion are extremists.

As for the Taleban, yes, it is a terrorist organization. It is also not officially recognized or endorsed by the UN, or by practically any country (except Pakistan, Saudia Arabai and the UAR at various points)

For some historical perspective:
In 1098, Jerusalem was stormed and fell. Thereupon, acting in the name of their Prince of Peace, the Christian Crusaders put to the sword some 70,000 helples Moslems, men, women, infants, children, pausing only for intervals of rapturous prayers before resuming their slaughtering. Amid great rejoicing, the Kingdom of Jerusalem was established.

First...I want to know...do you personally believe this is even remotely possible??

Absolutely. Not in the near future, but it can definately happen. But if we continue to do as you are, by demonizing an entire religion, it will never happen.

That they might somehow fullfill our needs??

Our needs? What needs? Oil? How about civilized society's needs. We need to marginalize their influence, not glorify it through their martydom.

And what are the Talaban, if not zealots??

Never said they weren't. Are you actually trying to say that it is a bad thing for our government to ask the taliban to renounce violence?

It's the fundementalists who ARE the terrorists...and to hope, that even Obama (fine speaker tho he is) is going to change their thinking, their goals, is pure fantasy and folly...I don't think we're going to show them our gentle natures, our good hearts...and get them to see our way as good...they don't care.

You guys are so short-sighted. No one thinks or is suggesting that we are going to all of the sudden make radicals see the light, and give up their violent ways. Obama has been very clear that he will go after al qaeda and the taliban, even into pakistan if he has to. The idea is to reduce their influence, and prevent their ranks from growing. To let the moderate population to see that we are not the bad guys. Do you think invading iraq increased or decreased the ranks of the extremist?

They have an agenda, and they won't satisfied until it is achieved...

Bush and Cheney had an agenda too, and they would never have been satisified either. Thank goodness we have a democracy that thoroughly rejected their murderous ideology.
