What's up with the "banned" words?

I was posting a question, and I mentioned g-a-y marriage, and the site wouldn't let me! Now, I'm wondering if maybe this was just a mistake, or if it really has banned the word g-a-y?! Please help me to clear this up! (I tried to post this without the dashes, and it wouldn't let me!)

I think it is because very young people come to this site too and there are too many things their minds aren't ready to understand.

I think that that's completely wrong. The g-a-y lifestyle should be introduced at young ages, so that this contempt and segregation of homosexuals will end. I really hope that there's a reason beyond young minds to this.

It's probably because g-a-y is used more as slang as in 'you're g-a-y' etc.

Banning the word in no way shows that the creators or funadvice oppose homosexuality.

If that was their intend, then they would have also banned words such as transsexual, tranny, homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, drag queen etc.

This has since been fixed. The banned words issue was a bug - we're OK with people being who, what, and how they'd like to be, that includes gender, orientation, lifestyle, etc, etc, etc.

To me, it's all good - you might not like what I do, and I might not like what you do, however, we (FunAdvice) will always respect your right to be what you'd like to be.

Let me know if there are any words you think shouldn't be filtered, I think we fixed most of them, but, there are always unforseen bugs that can & do happen in a computer system. Thankfully, our engineers are very smart & talented (far more talented than myself) so they do an amazing job when we notice things that could be improved of fixing and or improving them.

I appreciate the answer. Even if the word 'gay' were being used as slang, it's wrong to censor since this is also a sexual orientation. I wrote advice the other day about mas*urbat*on, which was filtered, which I also think is a bit silly, but since they just stick an asterick in some of the letters' places, it's not too big a deal for me. Thanks for answering!
