Baby robins..urgent help!

Training for the PFL! (Pug Football League) Vote for him please! Asked by emmalism3568 5 months ago, 2 answers.

Just wanted to give a brief hello before I ask my question. happy It's been awhile, but I've been busy assisting in rehabilitating baby birds. I'm back again, but there's always a major outburst happening constantly. I will be around answering questions.

Anyway,...

around 7-9 days ago we had Robins hatch. There's a bit of a problem. When one of the babies jumped out, my dog attacked the little one, and now he has a broken leg. We're going to try and help him, but the future looks grim. I need to give him some food, so I dug up a worm, but I can't pry the baby's mouth open. Is there anything I can do to coax him to open his mouth? Another animal death would mortify me. So please...any wild life experts? I'm expecting that we're taking the baby somewhere in the morning, but I want him to survive the night. Thanks!

Call Aark for recommendations (215) 249-1938. Take the birds to a rehab center ASAP.

DRY CAT FOOD moistened with water until mushy- a little tiny plastic fork- like for appetizers or something of the sort to push it into his mouth. 3 MM sized scoops every hour. Do not feed it the wrong food which is worse than no food.

You can take your thumb and middle finger on either side of the corners of his mouth and use the nail of your forefinger to split his mouth open then put the food into his throat- you'll need to push it down, don't just put it in his mouth.

Keep him warm, an incubator is ideal but if you don't have one, keep him warm any other way you can. Don't wet him of course. Put him in a small container and surround him with scrunched up tissues to keep his legs from splaying, and heat in, in addition to other heat source.

Forgot to tell you to sweep/brush the underside of his beak with your finger to try to get him to open- like a horizontal come here motion with your finger, before you try to pry it open.

Good luck happy
