Auto car warranties: when is it a scam?

If only you could be in my head... Asked by sikashimmer about 1 month ago, 2 answers.

I've gotten repeated calls about my Car's warranty expiring and I must sign up with xyz company for protection.
First time it tipped me off was they needed my social security # and when I started asking questions about security and that I wanted to speak...

with a supervisor I got switched over to some ghetto sounding chick who hung up on me.
Then the next couple times I called the number back and there was an automated message by an unprofessional sounding voice.
I looked up the number and found it was a scam.
Then I got ANOTHER call and they completely got my car wrong. I told them to stop calling me and take me off their list.

Now I got another call tonight and I just ripped this lady's head off and she swears it's not a scam. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said she IS the supervisor. I told her to call me back next week I'm busy. Just looked up the number and many websites are stating it as a scam.
What the ***?

Anyone else experience this?

Yeah, these are very common.

Believe me, no car company is going to call and say Your warranty is almost up. Time to extend it. Why? Because companies actually lose money when they extend warranties, because the longer a warranty is good, the more likely that the car will have problems as it gets older.

These companies are just like any other phone-based scam. It's great that you knew better than to give your ssn out, and to do some research on these people.

You can look into blocking the number, but sometimes the number will change or be 'private.' Don't bother with asking for a supervisor anymore. That was a good way to try to make them back off, but they're obviously being more persistent than that.

At this point all you can do is pick up and hang up, or ignore the calls completely. I've had this happen to me, and I would just pick up the phone long enough to say Take me the fuck off your list because I'm never going to buy what you're selling. and then hang up.

Eventually they see this as a lost cause and give up calling.

Hope this helps. happy

Hey you know what, when someone calls with those, just slam the phone down. They are ALWAYS scams. ALWAYS, no way around it. Contact the dealer if you really think that its legit (Let me tell you, it isn't)
