Are my parents joking around with me?

aaah :) Asked by imprettycool0 7 months ago, 5 answers.

My mom said I'm not allowed on the computer because there is this bug/worm going around. Are they telling me the truth or are they April Fooling me?

It's true - it's called Conficker

However, if your parents have made sure their antivirus and firewall is updated, and they have the latest windows security update - you should be fine.

Staying off the computer won't protect you, anyway. The next time it connects to the internet, the virus would take effect, assuming its on your comp.

As long as you have some sort of anti-virus program running (norton, AVG, etc...) and it's up to date, you will be fine. The tech community has been aware of this virus for quite a while and were prepared for it.

The only people that will be affected are people that have disabled their anti-virus programs or don't run them on a regular basis. Most default to update and run on a daily basis.
