Well.. First of all gain confidence with yourself.. If you havn't already got that. Sing in front of the mirror.. at home.. whenever you have time. Afraid this is only a confidence issue here. You just have to go for it.. and when you don't think about what others are going to think of you then that's when you sound good.
Good Luck

Your fear is based from fear of failure? rejection? ridicule? Figure our what you are afraid will happen, adn once you realize you are good enough and nothinghorrible will happen to you if you sing a solo, you should enjoy the beauty of performing for others alone, and most likely desire more. Good Luck SandiB
Im a singer, I sing infrount of people all the time.. Every now and then, people will ask me to sing for them and I get nervous and I freeze.. But I noticed the thing is, if your a good singer, why be ashamed to sing? if your singing to say a small group of people at school and other people hear, its a good thing right? cause they'll tell other people that your good and then the people they tell eill tell other people and you'll get a lot more compliments which will boost your confidence.
xx
All you have to do is practice in private! Once you think that you're a good singer, you might be able to do perform in front of people. This can help make you more confident too!
Hi I have the exact same problem as you. I LUV 2 sing and I just can't seem to sing in front of people. Its called rejection everyone goes thorugh it and it will just help us later in life. Don't worry giveit a try.
When you sing in private (as everyone advises), act as though you're already in front of an audience. Imagine them sitting there, imagine yourself glancing at them every now and then and seeing their reaction. Imagine trying to please them and really singing for them, as well as for yourself. Then when you actually do that, it won't feel so weird - you've already done it in your imagination.

Any advice on how to help with this resolution?

I have a list of New Year's resolutions. I know what ot do to acheive most of them. But there's one that I can't figure out. I want to be more confident about singing. I want to feel good enough about it to be able to sing in front of people. I'm in chorus and only sing in a small group, with the whole group, or in front of my chours teacher. When I sing in front of him, it's for a grade and no one else can hear me. I like it that way. BUt I'd also like to be able to sing with my friends or in front of them.
Any advice?
