I use Symantec and it doesn't slow my computer or hog my resources whatsoever. Are you sure that it is Symantec that is slowing your computer down?
Norton Antivirus is a huge resource hog. It bogs your computer down...a lot.
Google ABG Antivirus, it is a good free software that can compete with some of the more name brand, expensive Antiviruses.
Oh and I forgot.
Zone Alarm. Google it. It is very good., and it's free.
Avast is good and it doesn't eat you memory like SNorton
