Amityville horror?

Is the movie amityville horror based on the real murders or the haunting of the amityville house?

the original 'amityville horror' movie was based on the supposed hauntings of the house once the lutz family moved into it.
I have heard that a lot of the occurances were created by hollywood- and the lutz's.
I have seen one somewhat convincing photo of a small child spirit- but the rest is kind of lame.
ED and LORRAINE WARREN were the actual demonologists that studied the house and the hauntings- and his book 'the demonologist' makes for some pretty good reading.
so to me, the movie, was very loosely based on some things that happened- but it is mostly fiction.
it really is up to the person looking at it to make up their own mind as to the truth of the happenings.

I heard that it was pretty much based on the people's lives when they moved into that place...
