as far as following your dream, there has to be an element of belief in yourself present to actually pull it off.
my advice- GO FOR IT, you will not accomplish it by not making an attempt- if you try it and fall on your face , you at least know you gave it your best shot- NO REGRETS that way.
once you show that you have the talent, there are other people whose jobs involve prompting you along and making sure you are giving your all to the project at hand.
GO FOR IT WITH ALL YOU'VE GOT!!
All good writers (I'm a writer, and it's my strongest suit) have what is called writers block. There will be so many books you begin but don't finish. There will be books that take you years to finish and books at take 8 months. Believe in yourself, and write what your imagination allows you to write about
It's a little early in your life to throw in the towel...for sure. Continue writing, polish your skills by utilizing writing sites on the internet, and with classes...Many prolific writers started writing very young, but didn't see anything published until their 20's (late 20's at that)...Stephen King for instance...
Keep at it because you love it...passion is a huge part of success.

Am i wishing for something that can't happen?
I really, really want to be an author. Truly, I want to be an author before I'm an adult (like s.e. Hinton or christopher paolini). Though I would be happy publishing a book at anytime between now and when I die. I write all the time, not just in...
language arts class. I also constantly have my nose in a book. I've let a few close friends look at snippets of stories I've written and they seem to like it. Of course, they are my friends and may just be being nice. All the stories I've tried to write have come to a point were I just don't know what will happen next or maybe can't put it into words. As I said before I want to be an author almost more than anything, but sometimes I wonder if I actually can. I've heard people say you can do anything you set your mind to. I know that's not entirely true. No matter how much I practice, I'll never be able to be a famous singer; my voice just isn't that good. Nor will I ever be a morning person (stay away from me until after noon). So here's my question:
When do I say I'm just not going to become an author? Do I at all? Am I wishing my life away? Or am I just reaching for the stars?
By the way, just to give you an idea on how much I would like to be an author, if a jenie promised to grant me one wish, within the boundaries of reality, I would wish to be an author. Of course, reality might be different if there were jeanies.
