Am i treating my lip ring the right way?

Shark Atack Asked by funadvice about 1 year ago, 5 answers.

Okay, last night I pierced my lip by myself.
It didnt really hurt hat bad because I numbed it with ice first.
And we sterilized the needle; we ran it through a flame a few times and then dropped it in alcohol for while.
Then I kept a stud ear ring in...

it for while, and then I put a hoop through my cousins lip, because he did it too.
It took like five minutes to get through his lip, and it was really hard.
For at least an hour we tried getting my hoop through, and when we finally surfaced it we had to make a new hole.
And then my lip grew three times the normal size all last night, and for a while today.
It looks good at the moment, but white stuff keeps building up on the oustide

Im washing out my mouth with salt water after every meal, and holding up a saltwater cotton ball to the front every other hour.
And I twist it every now and then to make sure it isn't nested.

Am I doing it wrong?
I desperately dont want an infection..help me?

yes, you are doing it wrong
as well as that you shouldnt have peirced iyours or anyone elses either
your not a profesional peircer
and peircing is a lot more that just stabbing a hole through your skin
you should have went to the people with real expirience
next time save up $50 bucks and get it dont the right way
...now
lip rings swell up after theyve been peirced, there supposed to do that
but it goes down generally within 3 days
the fact that you did it tyourself means you have a much higher chance of infection and longer healing time
and if you have an ear stud in there...im going to have to say...thats really stupid
ear studs arnt designed to be in your lip, there too short, and the back digs into your lip and will make a bigger hole on one side
it already sounds like yours is infected
it shouldnt have puss the day after its done, and id say this is due to the stud in it
you need to get that thing out
even if you changed it to a ring, its already infected and cant heal itself
go to the doctor, or a profesional peircing place and get the thing taken out
it wont be able to heal with that thing in
but if you take it out now, after it heals again you can get it dont the right way
one more thing...you need SEASALT in the water!! not plain salt water

my friend always does this stuff to her ear. she pierced her lip a couple days ago with her friend joe..and it got infected. her mom took her to a professional..he said to get some of the disenfectent normally for you ears after you get it pierced..and take the lip ring out when you get up and before you go to sleep and put some in a small cup. put the lip ring in it and let is sit there for about 5 minutes.
and take a q-tip and dip it in the disenfectent and put it on the outside of your mouth and the inside of your mouth.

the swellin should go down after a couple days too. so dont flip out if it doesnt. my friend joe pierced his tounge and it swelled..but went down little by little every day. it was bakk to normal in about 1 week.

hopefully this will help..=] =]

When my son got his lip done, he had a pro do it, not a freind, he was told to use listerine on the inside of it and Bactine on the outside. It does sound like you may have an infection starting though. I am not an alarmist but if it was me or one of my kids I would strongly suggest you take it out and let it heal then go have it professionally done.

Ok first of all you need to keep your piercing in no matter what. If you take your piercing out for cleaning or due to an infection you can either cause the hole to close and/or create an absess which is an even bigger problem than an infection or swelling. When I got mine done it was red around the outside and had a slight infection regardless of how well I took care of it, some people are just prone to infection and have a slower healing time. I suggest crest pro health mouthwash or listerine for the inside of your mouth and sea salt soaks and bactine on the outside. Bactine and mouthwash should be taken with you everywhere for the first two weeks because you are likely to chew gum, drink soda, or eat out and need to make sure to rinse your mouth and clean the outside of the piercing right afterwards. If you are not putting water in your mouth make sure to clean!!! As far as your self-piercing goes, it was not a smart move. I know it can be hard to wait sometimes for something you really want, but when it comes to something so serious as infection and putting a whole in your FACE, I would just wait to shell out the 35 bucks.

I've pierced my lip about 5 different times after having lost a few rings, now I have two lips piercing and I did them on my own. I sterilized the needle and lip ring first then used store bought piercing cleaner on it and it turned out perfect. I just did my girlfriend's and I'm sure hers will be fine too.
