Am i alone in my thinking?

It is nice to meet you all! Asked by monicacharlene over 2 years ago, 10 answers.

I just found this site YESTERDAY, and I have noticed there a LOT of questions about how to become anorexic. Does anyone besides me think that is just sick? Do people actually want to become unhealty and disgusting looking? And to obsess over labels? I DO...

NOT think this behoviour is acceptable and I disapprove of anyone who encourages this and gives advice on how to achieve such a sickness? Am I alone in feeling this way?

I just deleted two such questions...and yep, it does seem that we've gotten more of those lately. If we can, we'll try to come up with a more automated approach for this issue.

Nope, you're not alone. Frequently, we delete those questions, send messages to the person who posted it, and or lock older discussions to prevent further replies encouraging behavior.

Thanks for joining the site - if you see anything where somebody is encouraging negative behavior, please let me know or use the contact form.

Since yesterday, I have noticed more and more requests on how to become anorexic.

What are people thinking is my feeling as well.

Anorexia is not a laughing matter, it is an illness.

It is not a quick fix to lose weight.

Anyone who has an eating disorder is also battling an underlying issue that exacerbates the eating disorder.

No your not the only one who feels sickened by this attitude but there are several vulnerable adults and teenagers who have been influenced by celebritys and the media that they feel the need to be anorexic or bullimic to look attractive or beautiful. On the other hand there are other resasons why individuals become bullimic or anorexic for reasons such as seeking attention.

However there is so much that we can say in order to attempt thenm to put a stop to this but so liitle we can do to get them to see the reality of it.

I guess the desire for these particular individuals to starve is stronger than the will to live.

i think its disturbing that someone would want to become unhealthy. i mean you can lose weight without being anorexic.

I could use a two week case of Anorexia but then again I weigh in at 300+ pounds.
I doubt I'd make it passed the first 3 hours of it with out seeking out a big ol hamburger steak smoothered with Mushroom grave and grilled unions and Mashed potatoes on the side with Garlic butter and then some Carrots to boot. . . Now I went and did it. . . . I made my self hungrey.

Dear monicacharlene,
Anorexia is a symtom of a psychological disorder. Right now the professionals believe it's a way for the person to be in control of something in their lives. When in reality it is a life that is totally out of control. As you can imagine several things can happen in a persons life for them to feel this way. If we read a bit between the lines they are asking how to be thinner not how to be anorexic...young minds have trouble distinguishing the difference. It is no wonder we are seeing more questions on this because we fondly call this generation O for obesity. They show signs of obesity higher than any other generation before them.
Sue...good luck

I think a lot of young people are confused about what anorexia really is. I think sometimes they think it's a viable diet! ( or that being ana is a status similar to being emo )

I think the best way to help these young girls is to get the right information out there.

I went through a little bought of depression when I was in the Army last year and I lost 10lbs(this was after I was hurt and removed from training = no exercise!). Even though it was the weight I'd always wanted to lose and *I* thought I looked great... when friends and family back home saw pictures of me they said I looked really sick. So it really does go to show that your own perception of your body can be warped.

I agree with you. I just joined and I have been looking around. Some of it is quite upsetting. I just cant understand why girls would want to starve themselves. I am a plus sized girl and I love it.
I just wanted to support your endevour =]
