This Jesus is the only way comment is a misunderstanding. This crap has got to stop. Such prejudice is largely based on the following verse from the New Testament
ergo eimi ha hodos kai ha alatheia kai ha zoa; oudeis erketai pros ton patera ei ma di emou
'I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father expect through me.' (Matt. 14:6)
However, this is a rather slender peg on which to hang one's religious intolerance. Especially since the original Greek renders the verse a bit differently than cited above- although the above translation is the one you would probably find in the Bible. The Greek word erketai is extremely present tense. So, rather than 'comes' as the word is rendered above, it would more accurately be 'can presently come.' This, of course, changes the whole meaning. Jesus is actually saying, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one can presently come to the Father except through me.' Thus, Christian exclusivity becomes absurd. Unlike the interpretations pushed upon us by Bible-thumpers- who say that surrender to Jesus is the only way, for all time-Jesus simply said that he was the way presently, at that time, in Palestine 2,000 years ago. Says Dr. Boyd Daniels of The American Bible Society, 'Oh, yes. The word erketai is definitely the present tense form of the verb. Jesus was speaking to his contemporaries.'
Heaven itself is not a teaching that is even found in all religions. Most do have the concept of an afterlife, but that's about the only similarity. The Vikings, for example, believed that one's honor during life on earth, as well as bravery and skill in battle, determined how eternity was spent.
Given my agnostic beliefs, I don't think it's ever possible for us to know if there is a heaven, or even an afterlife.
I believe anyone, no matter the religion, that has accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior is Heavenbound !! - see John 14 : 6 - it's not the 'religion' that saves you...Take care !!
amblessed, this is just too funny! It doesn't matter what religion you are, as long as you accept jesus? Wouldn't that make you a christian then? You really do provide some excellent comic relief on this board...
One thing is for sure, we will know much more than we do, one minute after we breathe our last breath.
The bible gives an example of one man and what he faced, and experienced, what he felt, what he wanted to happen, etc. If that is not enough, I don't know what else it would take to enlighten someone.
Even athiests can go to heaven. If I'm wrong then I guess we just die. Oh well. I do believe it doesn't matter if you are hindi or jewish or athiest that God allows all to come to Him. Now if you went and interrupted your honest life with something unforgiveable like murder then you codemn yourself to hell because it won't be something you can be in peace with. You can only be in heaven if your at peace with yourself.
When we die there is 2 possible places for the spirit to go to await the resurection. A place called Paradise and or a place called spirit prision. People that go to Paradise must have died as and infant or have been Baptised by the proper authority and then lived and kept all the comandments of God. Both are better places than this but the requirement must be met.
