What is so addicting about alcohol?

What is so addicting about it? I took a sip once... And it tasted horrible. I have to ask, what's the catch?

its not really about the taste I felt the same way when I was your age lol but you shouldnt be drinking anyway =] being drunk just feels good and people love the feeling so they do it all the time and want to be drunk all day

people like the feeling it gives them...
cant explain the addiction part...but I know someone that is/was...they changed a lot during that time

its addicting becuase some people like feeling drunk and numb.. like you just love doing it.. its hard to explain the real addiction part.. but it tastes sooo good omg yummm. thats just what I think about alcohol

Lol, yes it does taste horrible, but like all drugs it affects your brain, it depresses the behavioral inhibitory centers (I.e. makes you more talkative, more self-confident and less socially inhibited), slows down the processing of information from the senses and inhibits thought processes. People drink for a variety of reasons, it's a social activity, they're out partying with their friends, they want to feel more confident, they are self-medicating (they feel bad so they drink to get numb), etc etc... After a while the body starts to get used to the alcohol, and so you need more to get the same effect, this is called tolerance and is the first step towards addiction. After this the body starts to need it or it will go into withdrawl, and that is called dependance... When a person starts to need the alcohol, both mentally and physically, you've got addiction... People get addicted for various reasons, but it is mostly just a coping tool. They cant cope with their lives, so they drink so they dont have to deal with it.

some people drink it to lossen up at llike partys and clubs..I liked the feeling it would help me sleep better when I did sleep..but I got preg.and havent dun it I almost 2yrs...

Some tastes really horrible - but some taste really good. The thing is... once someone starts drinking it and keeps going, they get drunk. Once the person is drunk, they no longer care about the taste and start chugging more drinks back. Most people drink to get drunk, I admit - being drunk is fun sometimes but most people overdo it. I drink the odd time at home with like 2-3 friends and we have a lot of time. But, I don't trust going to parties or having other people make my drinks because you never know what will happen. And if you don't know when its time to stop, you shouldn't be drinking. Once I get a little buzz I stop because when people push themselves thats when it gets dangerous. People just generally have fun when they are drunk, sometimes its fun but other times it turns into their worse nightmare. When people think of the times they got drunk, they tend to think of the fun things that happened and completely shut out the bad things. Which is stupid - its all about being mature and responsible.

naw well its all up to the person, me personally I love the taste of alcohol, I dont do it anymore because I've been in enough trouble but still, its really just because when your drinking your just relaxed and havin fun and thats what people like out of it

I like the taste of several alcoholic beverages. It is an acquired taste. I'll have one or two but I don't drink to get drunk. I got too much going on my life to take hours out to party and being older I no longer bounce back as quickly from abusing my body.

I like little sips of alchohal I love beer! and wine is always a great sipping drink but people who get addicted have small minds you can enjoy some thing without getting addicted

Its just fun to do with your friends and at partys:P But some of it does taste gross I agree.

I recon its overated heaps. but its still fun with mates and stuff. but people who put up pics on myspace and shizz are fuxn tryhards
