The service provider (in your case AT&T) doesn't have anything to do with whether or not AIM is free on your phone. All that tells is it that those service providers allow you the ability to use AIM. However, there's usually a fee or a requirement of some sort. I found that you need to have web browsing/internet enabled on your phone (unlimited of course) to be able to use AIM for cell phones.
So, you CAN use AIM on your phone, but you WILL have to pay for it unless you already have internet enabled on your phone and built into your cell phone plan.

Aim on phone?
I have AT&T.
My brother turned texting on for me.
Does that mean that I can use AIM on my phone?
Or does that still cost money?
