Uh, your parents are over 18, that's the difference.

The reason a huge age gap under 18 is generally frowned upon is because of levels of maturity. After a certain point though, maturity starts to level out, so a 5 year gap, like the one between your parents, isnt that big a deal... In addition, guys (on average) mature a little slower than girls, and so you usually find a girl with an older guy...
But I'm not out to dictate who should love whom, so like whatever...

^^scenkid1, thats just rediculous. What on earth does a 10 yr old know about dating, let alone a 12 yr old??
People look at a situation where a child wants to date someone who is two or three years older/younger and when you look at it from an adult perspective, perhaps thinking that, 'Hey, my husband is 4 years older than I am, and it’s no problem. The problem is that kids are not little adults, and even a two- or three-year age difference is significant in the teen years, your one teen is 13 and wants to date someone who is 17, there will be power difference that can result in an extremely unbalanced relationship. Seventeen-year-olds are at very different developmental stages -- intellectually, socially, emotionally, and sexually -- than 13 yr olds. Poeple would have to look at your maturity level for wanting to date a boy so young.

The boy is 13 years old and has less life experience than you do. At his age it is unlikely he will know how to be in a serious relationship and give you what you want.
Give him a chance to grow up, and just be friends with him. It may turn out to be your best alternative.

Don't date anyone significantly older or younger than yourself. A sixteen-year-old should not be dating a thirteen-year-old. A nineteen-year-old should not be dating a sixteen year old.

kinda weird cause it wud be a MAJOR hiigh difference and lots of temptations cause you go 2 different school and are leaving for college in a while. I wud say yes, its weird, unless both of you are out of school and are over 18-20. my parents are 3 years apart 2, but they met when my mother was 24 and my father was 27. not a big deal then.

I personally think that 2 year diff. isn't so bad, but 3 years is a big deal 2 me.
