what would your parents say if you are 16 and your boiifriend is 21 do you find anything wrong with that because I dont

There seem to be at least a couple of assumptions being made here.

First off, the assumption that these two folk are sexually active with each other. Maybe they are; maybe they're not. Only they know for sure. If they are, then:

Second assumption: The law of the land where they are domiciled does not allow for consenting sex at the age of 16. It is legal in many countries. Do not confuse the age of majority with the age of consent.

However, the general attitude of some here seems to be that so long as Talitha5's folks are OK with the situation, then that's fine.

For the record, there is a 7 year age gap between my wife and me. That means I was 23 when she was 16. Concerned with that?

Just as well we didn't meet until she was 23...

There is something wrong with that - it's illegal. Your parents have every right to be concerned or upset. You are only 16 years old. The maturity level and experience level between the two of you is very different -even if you dont feel that it is. Your parents can call the cops on the two of you since you are a minor and he is an adult.

My parents wouldn't have approved of that bigger age gap, and to be honest, I doubt I ever would have gone for a 21 year old at 16. 21 year olds don't generally have a lot in common with 16 year olds, and you kinda have to wonder why a 21 year old wouldn't be looking at girls his own age. It kinda screams 'seedy' from where I sit.

well first of all it's illegal, so my parents definitely wouldn't be happy about that... and they would probably tell me that I couldn't see him anymore... my boyfriend and I are about a year and 7 months apart and that's plenty for me...

I see nothing wrong with age difference. I have always been attracted to older men, guys my age acted like idiots. However I would make sure you parents agree with it because they can make your life h*ll fighting against it, because of the law.
My parents knew my boyfriend, I was 16 he was 18. He was my first and to this day I have no regrets, we were together 2 years. However my parents met him and liked him and they had much respect for eachother.
If your parents have a problem with this, and you really love eachother then you need to respect them and him and not do anything that would hurt anyone. You only have two years until you are a adult. My parents and grandparents are 10yrs apat. My grandparents met when my grandmother was 15 ( you do the math) anyway they are going on their 58th wedding anniversery. My parents are now together 30 years. My husband and I are 4 years apart. Anything could happen. But respect all parties involved.

well it is illegal but I think it should be the parents decision. age shouldnt get in the way of love. people say its wrong cus the law says its wrong, are u really going to let that get in the way? I think you shoudl listen to your heart.

I don't think any 21-year-old should be dating a 16-year-old because of the experience and maturity level difference.

Yeah it depends on the couple - I'm 19 with a 24-year-old and I'd say we're pretty close at the mature level. But 16-year-old's tend to be rather immature and I think it's crazy for a 21-year-old to want to date someone that young.

Harleyrider: a 16 year old and an 18 year old is a bit different than a 16 year old and a 21 year old.

Also, it wasn't such a big deal when our parents/grandparents were that many years apart years before, because back then, they actually courted. As opposed to today, when the emphasis seems to be more on 'chasing tail' so to speak.

Not all people are out to chase tails and hey that is why I said as long as he is a gentlemen and respects everyone invovled.
I know there are a lot of idiots out there. But this is her and her parents call. If he is a nice man and willing to respect her and her parents and she respects her parents and they aren't doing anything against anyone's wishes then I say it is ok.
Young men are just as intrested in sex as a older one.
She could be with a 16yr old horny as*hole idiot, or a 21 yr old nice man. If sex is the reason not to be with someone older then you I think that is a dumb reason, I read a lot of sexual questions coming from a lot of teenages on this site.

What does he have in common?

He can drink, drive, and smoke. He can get into night clubs and parties. He can get into every place that you can't.

well although I dont have a problem with people dating older than they are and think that its perfectly normal...within reason...like 2 years TOPS...21 IS FREAKIN RIDICULOUS! it doesnt matter when you both are out of college...BUT SERIOUSLY you are 16! you must be givin it up to him...is that why he is with u? Reb1312--- Just so you know I am 33 my mother is 56 and my stepfather is 44, They are 12 years apart ( sorry my bad) My mother met him when he was 18yrs old and she was 30. they have been together ever since. You do the math. I love when kids want to use the back in your day answer. Honey I am not that old and it was not that long ago. Kids still act like they now everything. Just as we did when we were teenagers. Drugs, rape, murder, rap, rock, druggies, punkers, thugs, nerds, I could go one but I think you get my point.

And not all 21 yr olds are into going out and drinking, smoking, nightclubs and parties. Don't judge a man you don't even know. Again this is why I said I agree to it with certain stipulations.

To a certian extent I do, because he is more mature in a lot of ways. I'm not saying your immature, or dumb or anything. I'm just saying since he's older and out of school - he's more mature. It's hard to explain - but I'd play it safe.

Well Talitha, based on your post, I say live your life and don't worry what other's think. Not all older women or men who date younger people are doing it for a bad reason. I wish you happiness.

it's illegal. But I know a lot of people who date older people. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But what you may not realize is that you and your boyfriend live in 2 different worlds, different levels of maturity. They know what they want. But you have a chance to experience guys that are your age or guys that are older than you, you'll find what you want.

Maturity has a lot to do with it , by the looks of your grammar and thought prioritizing skills , you are not all too mature . The problem is when the attraction IS the age difference . I've always been far beyond my years so when I was about 16 I dated a 23 year old and it was no problem . Intellect , maturity physique have a lot to do with it .
