Age appropriate books

Has anyone read the books the giver or number the stars by lois lowry? what would be the earliest appropriate age to read these books?

I read that book. I loved it. I read it in 5th grade and comprehended all of it. I think 'the giver' is a perfect book for young kids. =]

I read The Giver in 8th grade. I think that it's not age it's reading level for books.

Well I think it really depends on how you interpret the question and it depends on your readind level persnally I think number the stars is a great book and I read it in fifth grade!

I first read number the stars in 4th grade along with the giver and reread them recently and got a lot more out of them now that I am older. I understood it all the same just looked at it differently is all.
