The story of Adam and Eve is allegorical. It's about the origin of evil in the world according to ancient Hebrew tradition. There weren't actually two people named Adam and Eve.

The Lilith story existed in Judaism through the first few centuries CE. There are still Jewish traditions based on Lilith but the reason for them is not known by most modern Jews.

Since this is such an old story there are variations but a very lucid telling of the story starts with Adam being tasked by God to name all the animals and seeing how there was a male and female of each animal Adam becomes melancholy because he realizes that he is alone. God creates Lilith for Adam but instead of making her out of dust like Adam he makes her out of scum and filth so she will be lesser than him. In spite of this Lilith refuses to submit to Adam. God tries to intervene but Lilith will have none of it and starts copulating with demons. To punish her God kills most of her demon children and for revenge she seeks to kill human babies. An interesting twist to the story is that since she left the Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge she is immortal.

Because Lilith rebelled first from Adam then from God she is a strong image for some feminists who oppose patriarchy.
