It actually depends on what type of skin you have. If you have normal to oily, Proactiv works wonders. But, if you have fairly dry skin, I wouldn't recommend it. From what I saw, it dries out your skin way to bad. Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment works well for dry skin, or just about any skin. Just put it on before you go to bed, just on your individual spots, and the next morning they actually looks smaller. Just make sure to wear sunscreen and hydrate well.
The comment about not recommending Proactive to someone with fairly dry skin would normally make sense... but I have very very dry skin. I started using Proactive Feb before prom (in May), and by the end of March my acne was 99% cleared. I didn't even use it as much as the product suggests. I used it everyday, once a day for a week, and then only once every two or three days. It doesn't dry out your skin as long as you shower before using the product. I hope this helps.
I didn't know Proactiv worked so well. I know about it from the infomercials and stuff, but I figured it sounded too good to be true. I personally used to take Accutane, which worked very well. I also found that Oxy Balance 10 worked very well, but they don't seem to sell that anymore. If you aren't able to keep your acne under control with storebought soaps, you might want to see a doctor.
