I use proactive.
I used acne free but it didn't work as well as the proactive, it usually made my face more oily than ever and made my break out every few weeks.

Hmmm to be honest different things work for different people. You need to think about things like...do you have oliy skin? or do you have dry skin that's prone to acne? or do you have normal skin just with acne breakouts? or do you have combo skin (normal skin with patches of dry skin, oily skin and acne-prone skin)? It's very difficult to find products specially deisgned for different types, I think Body Shop is one of the few places that does it. But I recently stubbled on a beauty product review website (http://www.makeupalley.com). Basically it's real people reviewing the products and even better, you can choose to only read reviews from say, acne-prone skined people or normal skined people or combo skined people etc etc. It's really worth trying it!
I personally use 'aqueous cream'(you can get it from most pharamasists or super-markets but apperently boots is the best) and then neutrogena visibly clear 2 in1 and then a gel spot treatment from tescos. But I'm actually finding that the neutrogena is drying out my skin so have been looking through the reviews to find the perfect product.
a lot of people swear by Johnsons baby head to toe for getting rid of acne and, bonus, it leaves your skin really soft!
Hope this helped x

Exactly why some people get acne and some do not is not fully known. It is known to be partly hereditary. Several factors are known to be linked to acne:

* Family/Genetic history. The tendency to develop acne runs in families. For example, school-age boys with acne often have other members in their family with acne as well. A family history of acne is associated with an earlier occurrence of acne and an increased number of retentional acne lesions.
* Hormonal activity, such as menstrual cycles and puberty. During puberty, an increase in male sex hormones called androgens cause the glands to get larger and make more sebum.
* Stress, through increased output of hormones from the adrenal (stress) glands, although modern tests have said otherwise and point to this not being a cause.
* Hyperactive sebaceous glands, secondary to the three hormone sources above.
* Accumulation of dead skin cells.
* Bacteria in the pores. Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) is the anaerobic bacterium that causes acne. In-vitro resistance of P. acnes to commonly used antibiotics has been increasing. ]
* Skin irritation or scratching of any sort will activate inflammation.
* Use of anabolic steroids.
* Any medication containing halogens (iodides, chlorides, bromides), lithium, barbiturates, or androgens.
* Exposure to certain chemical compounds. Chloracne is particularly linked to toxic exposure to dioxins, namely Chlorinated dioxins.
There are many products available for the treatment of acne, many of which are without any scientifically-proven effects. Generally speaking, successful treatments show little improvement within the first two weeks, instead taking a period of approximately three months to improve and start flattening out. Many treatments that promise big improvements within two weeks are likely to be largely disappointing. However, short bursts of cortisone can give very quick results, and other treatments can rapidly improve some active spots, but usually not all active spots.
Widely available OTC bactericidal products containing benzoyl peroxide may be used in mild to moderate acne. The gel or cream containing benzoyl peroxide is rubbed, twice daily, into the pores over the affected region.

Step1Thorough cleansing should stop some blackheads from forming, while steaming is the most effective way of getting rid of them. steaming brings them to the surface of the skin from where they can be eased out with special extractors available at all chemists.
Step2Always close the pores with a mild astringent sush as witch-hazel aferwards.
Step3My never-fail trick to keep blackheads at bay and tone my skin before a night over my face is to rub a wedge of juicy, red tomato over my face and neck for about five minutes and rinse it off. Tomato is very rich in vitamins A, B, C and E and contains amino acids and salts, such as citrates and tartraties, that give it a sour taste and make it a good astringent for the skin
