12 weeks is usually the latest most doctors will perform an abortion. (for some it's 15 weeks) It depends on the doctor and the laws in your state. Most abortions are performed in the 1st trimester (1 - 12 weeks). The earlier an abortion is performed, the less complications are likely. An abortion is still safer in the 2nd trimester than carrying a baby full term however.

At the most basic level, the abortion issue is not really about abortion. It is about the value of women in society. Should women make their own decisions about family, career, and how to live their lives? Or should government do that for them? Do women have the option of deciding when or whether to have children? Or is that a government decision?

The anti-abortion leaders really have a larger purpose. They oppose most ideas and programs that can help women achieve equality and freedom. They also oppose programs that protect the health and well-being of women and their children.

Anti-abortion leaders claim to act 'in defense of life.' If so, why have they worked to destroy programs that serve life, including prenatal care and nutrition programs for dependent pregnant women? Is this respect for life?

Anti-abortion leaders also say they are trying to save children, but they have fought against health and nutrition programs for children once they are born. The anti-abortion groups seem to believe life begins at conception, but it ends at birth. Is this respect for life?

Then there are programs that diminish the number of unwanted pregnancies before they occur: family planning counseling, sex education, and contraception for those who wish it. Anti-abortion leaders oppose those, too. And clinics providing such services have been bombed. Is this respect for life?

I think in england you can have an abortion upto 24wk...or it used to be that.
although the later you get the more you need to have a good reason why.

and as far as I know, the latest you can have an abortion is 12 to 15 weeks
not sure if it goes further or not, but check your local health facility to find out.

I agree with a woman having a choice,but it gets to a point where it IS MURDER...there comes a point where the baby (or fetus) IS aware to a point of things around it and FEELS PAIN...if your not ready for a child why not consider adoption...you are blessed to give the gift of life to a human being...there are a million childless couples in this world who would kill for a child...look into it...you can give someone life and a child to love

The question of whether abortion is murder or not depends on the stage the embryo or fetus is in and whether it's considered a 'Human life' The argument that life begins upon conception is completely invalid in my opinion. After all, we are determining when HUMAN life begins and not just when 'life' begins. If we are determining when life begins, then killing this 'life' should not be a problem since morally it is o.k. to squash bugs, the bacteria that live on the chair we sit upon and cut down millions of trees. Some argue that it is when 'life' begins, but it is special in this case because this 'life' holds the *possibility* to become a human. But by that logic, not having sex is also killing a baby. A couple which is going to have sex but later decides not to is by that logic killing a baby. There could have been a *possibility* for a human life.

We should make contraception methods more available to PREVENT pregnancy instead of telling hormone enraged teens to just abstain from sex and ignore them hoping they do.

That's the real issue isn't it? If we effectively prevented unwanted pregnancy in the first place... she wouldn't be asking this question.

No, its not 12 weeks/3 months, it's 20 weeks. After 20 weeks There are only a very few doctors who will perform an abortion, I know of one in Kansas and one in Florida. But it's 20 weeks.

Having an abortion is like stealing the life away from your creation before it was even made. Everyone deserves the joy of life, they shouldn't be killed because of the mother's mistake.

yeah well anyways I bet if anyone of you were a 12 year old girl who got raped by her uncle and was threatened not to tell and then later found out she was pregnant, I'm thinking abortion is looking pretty good about then. so once in awhile when you have an opinion and want to enforce it on other people make sure you seen the issue from every angle.
