Abortion is something that you should take very seriously and consider all angles. Speak with your health care provider if it is right for you and if you are healthy enough.
There are two kinds of abortion in the U.S. — in-clinic abortion and the abortion pill(medicine abortion).
The abortion pill is a medicine that ends an early pregnancy. In general, it can be used up to 63 days — 9 weeks — after the first day of a woman's last period.
Your health care provider will give you the abortion pill at the clinic. You will also be given some antibiotics to start taking after the abortion pill.
The abortion pill works by blocking the hormone progesterone. Without progesterone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, and pregnancy cannot continue.
You will take a second medicine — misoprostol. It causes the uterus to empty.
Misoprostol will cause you to have cramps and bleed heavily. For many women a medical abortion is much like an early miscarriage. You will follow up with your health care provider to make sure everything went ok and you're healthy.
In-clinic procedures are aspiration and DE.
Aspiration is much like your uterus being vacuumed out up to 16 weeks.
DE's are performed between 16 weeks and 24 weeks, In my opinion if you're this far along and didn't make a decision yet you should not be getting an abortion.
Abortions then are done after 24 weeks for only very serious health conditions.
Look at planned parenthood's website. There is a lot of information for you there.
