Ronald Reagan was the second worst president we have ever had. Dubya is the worst. Reagan is the reason we are paying $4/gal gas today. He started the ball rolling, first by taking down the solar panels on the roof of the white house and scrapping Carters energy policies, including having solar panels on 2.5 million homes by 1985. Reagan is the one who started the deregulation movement that allowed our governement to be sold to the highest bidder. We are reaping the result of the reagan revolution now.

Hands down the best president of the 20th century was FDR. No other president had bigger obstacles, nor achieved so much.

I wasn't old enough to have a favorite president since I was born in a different country before I came here to America.
If I was old enough in the 20th century, I would have to say Ronald Reagan.

JFK.

He staved off nuclear war with the Soviets. Prevented an escalation of an American presence in southeast Asia. He issued Executive Order 11110 in the effort to return the creation and distribution of legal tender back to it's constitutionally mandated and rightful home, the United States Treasury.

He was assassinated as a result of his stance championing the rights of the common American.

FDR and LBJ share the dishonor of worst President of the 20th century and preceding centuries. They were both complete stooges for the monied interests that monopolize wealth, media, and power consequentially.

Not to dismiss the Bush Dynasty of GHWB, WJC, and GWB, (see Iran Contra/Whitewater) all three were as complicit as their predecessors mentioned, but not as vaunted or in hold of the reins at such crucial moments of flux.

FDR.

He faced the Depression and pulled us out of it. George W. Bush is *causing* the depression.

Well...let's see...Dwight D. kinda reminded me of my grandad so I liked him (I was 6)...oh, and I thought Jack Kennedy was ever so handsome (I was 11)...I lost interest in high school, turned radical in the 60's...and have since turned radically right in the last 20 years...well sort of...

It's too early in terms of history to make a choice of best and worst...hindsight is always better...and there isn't much room for "hindsight" if there's only one election under a person's belt...(hell, even a dozen elections doesn't offer much hindsight).

But if I were to pick my fav...I think I'll go with Gerald Ford...he didn't do anything...good or bad, and he knew when to get out of the White House.

Ronald Reagan. At a time when we needed it most, He raised our heads as Americans. At a time when the 60's revolution had left us broke, and demoralized with out a clear direction, It was Ronald Reagan who gave us hope. He had courage, and he didnt take $hit from the press like our current pres. No matter what the far left looney's say, Ronald Reagan will always go down as one of the greatest Presidents in the 20th century.

rickd,

It doesn't take a "far left looney" to see that the economic woes we are experience today were caused by your beloved ronnie. if the 60s revolution left us broke, how come reagan wound up with the the largest US deficit ever seen up until then? What courage does it take to ignore governments oversight responsibility, and allow monopolies to form in telecommunications, and other key industries? What courage did it take to follow trade policies that decimated our work force? What courage did it take to cut and run in lebenon? What courage did it take to have secret deals with the terrorist regime in Iran?

But conservatives still believe the mythology of reagan no mattrer how daming the facts are. History will not be kind to him...

Ronald Reagan, not question about it, was the best, with Calvin Cooldige being the second best. Reagan was right when he said that government is the problem not the solution. The less government the better for all of us.

As to FDR he was probably the worst in history - we are still struggling with the mess he left the nation in.

McBush Answered by jimahl on Jul 08, 2008, 06:03AM

airnavigator, that is pretty funny. FDR had to clean up the mess left him by Coolidge and Hoover. And he did it by paying attention to the needs of the average american, not the needs of the wealthy. It was the robber barons of the 20s, that Coolidge pandered to, that caused the huge chasm between wealth and poverty that eventually lead to the depression. If it weren't for FDR, we might never have recovered. Reagan did the same thing in the 80s, and now we see the biggest gap between wealth and poverty we have seen since the 20s. Government is not the problem, conservatives in control of the government is.

ya Rosevelt was the sh*t. we need another president like him to step up today. he wouldn't have let half the bad sh*t in this country happen. he loved nature, he was awarded the nobel peace prize, and come on, he created the Rough Riders. a calvary unit that went into battle with no horses, lol. Oh ya, and what other president would actually give a speach after being shot, the famous bloody shirt speach. Bush sure as hell wouldn't. he was a bad as*
