Just talking with him should let you be able to fully assess if he is good boyfriend material. And by that time, if he really likes you, he will ask you out. Otherwise, you can just keep it to being friends or ask him to hang out with you and see where it goes...

Don't rush with the boyfriend girlfriend thing yet...give it time and you'll know when it is the right time to ask him...usually when you are more comfortable.
As for the talking, ask him about his work, studies, hobbies etc etc. Anything you can think of...ask him his favourite color...it really doesn't matter as long as he can see you are interested and like listening to him.

I have just recently started talking to this guy who is 20...I'm 19.
We both seemed intrested in eachother which is a good thing since I havn't had a boyfriend in a long time.
