Im a type 1 diabetic, have been for almost 8 years. The risk for developing ketoacidosis is not very high, My blood sugars were running really really high, like scary high. I never got it under control in all this time about a month ago I was Hospitalized for over a week to help get it under control. The doctors told me all about ketoacidosis because I had only heard of ketones. the told me the risks arent that high and the main way to keep from going into diabetic ketoacidosis is to keep your sugars under control.
