8week4day, what kind of ultrasound should I have by ob

Asked by windvs about 1 year ago, 3 answers.

Hello,
I'm 8 weeks 4 day, today I went to see my OB for first check up after I found out I'm pregnent,OB did ultrasound from my vagina, and I did see my baby, but after that, my friend said I'm 8 week 4 day, the OB shouls do it from my tummy, no need to do it from internal, since the baby is big enough,he's not good...I should change OB,, I really don't know, did my OB do anything wrong? I really want a good OB.

Send this to a friend

Actually the transvaginal ultrasound is the best process to examine the earliest stages of pregnancy. A heartbeat can be detected around six weeks in, but an ultrasound done from the tummy won't work. Around eight weeks the first hints of a heartbeat may be detectable from the tummy but definitely not as reliable. Tell your friend that you might get a second opinion from your regular doctor, but the OB you have right now sounds fine to the folk at funadvice.

Neither procedure is incorrect. Previously, and I mean within even the past 3-4 years, transvaginal ultrasounds weren't as routinely used, and they ARE very good at detecting things prior to an external ultrasound. Should you require another ultrasound it will be done from outside, unless they have a specific reason for needing to do a transvaginal. I agree with funguy, there's nothing wrong with your OB and I'm not sure why you'd think you'd need another one. He did a standerd procedure, and even if you wer further along and it was done there's still nothing wrong with it.

Usually they do it externally at 12 weeks, I don't think you should worry too much!
