2 fighting chihuahua's

I have had a female chihuahua for 7 years and just recently got another female chi that is 3 years. they don't kill each other but they don't particularly care for each other. any suggestions on how to get them to get along?

Ditto to Harley...YOU are the alpha...so YOU let them know that fighting is against the rules. As Harley said...EVERY single dogfight starts with eye contact...the second you see one eyeballing the other, tap it with a finger and say NOPE...or HEY...or ACHHH...At first you're going to have to watch these guys close...but it takes very little time for them to respect your wishes...you are leader afterall, and that fits right into what they know instinctively.

Also, start walking them together...that builds their natural, instinctive pack thinking...walk them, one on each side of you at first...then move them so they both are on the same side...this basically changes their brain into we are a pack...human is leader, and we are beta's together...This is a GREAT exercise and will go way further to making them friends, than just the discipline of not allowing the fighting.

It's because they are fighting for the dominant spot in your household. If it gets really terrible I would consider keeping them seperated.

You have to let them know you are the leader and you will not except this behaviour. When you see eye contact or something getting ready to start you need to correct them both right away. I like to tap them right behind there ribs and make a sound so they know what they are doing is not ok by me. You need to stay on top of this action and sooner or later they will break.
That is strange because chihuahua's usually except there own breed faster then any other dog. Good luck and take charge.
