why dose it seem everything we talk about here reverts to religion. Ok harry potter is about a FAKTISHOUS wisard school where a FAKTISHOUS wisard and his friends have some cool adventures. The cronicals of narnia has a bunch of christin AND PAGAN stuff in it. so in that case lets start baning books and movies like that. then we could ban anything unamerican. then new ideas that go aginst the 'norm'
On a happier note: Thanks for the add |

Orion, you are a kind hearted, sweet lady. I don't think we will ever be on the same page as far as our own beliefs, as I don't believe in universal right and wrong. We will just have to agree to disagree. |

Nerd, I appreciate your candor, but I do not 'look down of others' ever even if they may be wrong. |

When I read books I really don't connect religion into the reading. Even if the reading has religion I some how block it out. I guess I'm so focuse to it, I imagine myself in it or it being around me. I guess I see books as a tear in reality and with no goods or wrongs no morals ( sounds abit robotic but not what im getting into). Just go with the flow! : ) |

Well, I agree with Nerd. The Narnia stories are Christian allegory, and use mythological characters and elements to tell the story of Jesus. CS Lewis, their author, was a learned and still much read Christian author. Many of us use his arguments when we argue for Christ on this website. His books for adults are heavy going but extremely intelligent and helpful Christian apologetics. One of his best friends was JRR Tolkein, who wrote the Lord of the Rings. Tolkein wasn't overtly Christian in his writing, but used a Christian world-view, if you like. Harry Potter books do not have a Christian world view and are much closer to what Orion is describing, but I believe firmly, having prayed about them and researched them thoroughly, as well as reading them, that we do more harm by banning our children from them than we do by sharing them thoughtfully with our children. 'Why should the Devil have all the best tunes?' asked General Booth, of the Salvation Army. 'Why should the Devil use all the best books?' I would ask. The other books we mentioned are innocent beyond question. The Harry Potter ones can be used to interest children in witchcraft, but why let them? Read them, enjoy them and use them for good, I say. |

Judge not lest ye be judged. I think some people can read books about magic and know they are fantasy, or even correlate the story to their faith. I think it is important to stimulate children's imaginations, in any religion. Orion, though I appreciate your passion for what you believe, I beg you not to look down on others for disagreeing with it. |

floss, those books you mentioned, about spells, witchcraft, warlocks....are not of God, but of Satan. The Bible talks about such things: The practice of witchcraft is forbidden by God. It's in the Bible, Deuteronomy 18:9-13, NIV. 'When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God.' Those who practice witchcraft will not inherit the kingdom of God. It's in the Bible, Galatians 5:19-21, NIV. 'The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; …drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.' The future is known only by God, not witches. It's in the Bible, Isaiah 8:19, TLB. 'So why are you trying to find out the future by consulting witches and mediums. Don't listen to their whisperings and mutterings. Can the living find out the future from the dead? Why not ask your God?' I really hope you will stop reading those books, especially to your child. I will pray for you. God bless |

Silly, yes, tell the parents about it and let them know you are worried. They should take him to see his doctor. |

I watch a baby that's only about three weeks old and every time I feed him, no matter how slow, he throws up. not spit up, but projectile vomit. is this bad? is there something wrong with him? I'm worried that he might have some sort of intolerance to his formula or something. any advice or ideas?? |

I'm the same with the dramatic bits in stories. I read my sons a bedtime story each night - around 4 pages of a big book like The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Harry Potter etc. We're currently on the bit in The Two Towers where Sam and Frodo are led into Shelob's Lair! There's no way I'm going to be able to stop halfway through that story tonight... |
