Tips on giving & getting great advice
What's the difference between good advice and bad advice?
Well, it is all perspective, but there are a few general rules of thumb that we would like everybody to follow to give the best fun advice possible.
Rule #1: Answer the Question Completely
We know, it's pretty obvious - but if a person asks a complex question, it needs to be a complex answer, driving home all the salient points. After all, they came here for advice. Keep in mind, if all you do is link back to a search engine for a keyword search and say tons of great info here - you're not helping the community. Answers need to stand on their own, even if they contain external links.
However, long & complex do NOT mean boring & dull.
Rule #2: Don't Be Mean.
Yes, it can be funny sometimes, but comments like, "You suck. Get a life, stop dogging on her," are bad.
Comments that are mean suck - don't do it.
Simple enough, ya? For more information, please consult our more comprehensive question tutorial or the frequently asked questions page.
